OF LIGHT OR DARK – OUR CHOICE |
| The essence of suffering is the negating and halting effect of the ego saboteur aspect of being at work upon the full and natural pulsation of healthy energy flow. Physical pain is distinct from suffering in that suffering is an emotional reaction added to the physical pain. Pain is a natural and instinctive reaction inherent in our nervous systems to protect us from harm. Because the brain operates off patterned responses and because there are many levels of being, frequencies in a sense, there is a tendency to recycle a sensation of suffering long after the situation or traumatic event that first caused it. What this means is that often we have more choice than we realize when it comes to how we respond to pain. If you cut your finger there are two levels of the pain. There is the immediate searing sensation in your flesh and there is the activation of the neurological wiring that remembers all the other times that neurologically similar events occurred. If you can separate these two responses it is possible to drastically reduce the suffering, to shrink the reaction simply back to the present, to just the cut finger and what to do to remedy the bleeding while remaining more peaceful. Of course this requires awareness training, willingness and slowing down the thought stream in order to observe the swelling up of the reactivity. Introspection is necessary in order to witness all this with some measure of objectivity. If one is highly addicted to shopping, food, sex, or substances (alcohol, drugs, tobacco etc.) it is nearly impossible to extricate one’s true self and gain the higher perspective. What is created in addictions is an extra, secondary, sub-self-center which exists outside of the true essential core center of being. In the tradition of yoga, the placement of this core self is in the central nervous system and the midline of the body. By drawing one’s awareness and breath back into the core of one’s being, through full inhalation and exhalation, by reeling oneself back in consciously to the body midline, often the truth is revealed. The reason this works is because within the center of the brain and spine runs the most concentrated bio-electric essence, yogi’s call this collection of energy the diamond body. I am speaking both symbolically and actually. In yoga it is believed there are five sheaths or vibrational bodies called Koshas. The diamond body is most central and represents the original impact of spirit into matter at the point of conception. I call this the diamond default position even though the memory of this purely reflective, unconditioned state is often forgotten by the personal self as it is wrapped up in ego defense cloaks. The pure surface of the diamond body is coated with the other 4 sheaths and as a lifetime progresses these sheaths or cloaks tend to grow thicker and coarser in vibration. Think of a diamond necklace in a jeweler’s window, lit with laser light, beaming rainbows galore. Our movement through space/time, when there is lack of the full pulsation of cleansing consciousness, causes stress and interference in the 4 sheaths. These outer bodies, or aspects of being, the mind, emotions, neural network etc, shield and cloud the diamond light with a smoky buildup so to speak thus obstructing the soul’s light, power and wisdom of knowing. The diamond body is not limited to the central nervous system but is thought to be the core of a vast network of interlocking lines of energy called nadis in yoga, similar to the meridians treated in acupuncture. We could call the ego body a unique unrepeatable collection of fractures in this network of light lines and the defense rackets that develop as a result. These fractures would then illustrate how the person learned to compensate for the lack of energy through its own unique life dramas, each memory leaving its imprint. Breakdown in one’s life in any measure, showing up as poor health, pain, fatigue, infection, depression, lack of prosperity, addictive behaviors etc. that is perceived as suffering, is connected to weak links in these energy lines. Each moment, we get to choose: do we use our thinking and action to feed the awakening of the diamond body awareness or do we feed the light blocking strongholds of the ego body. In essence, we choose light or dark, ease or suffering. Habitual alcohol use is one example that adds to the weight of the ego and increases suffering. I don’t drink at all because I see that alcohol use is out of control in our society and I don’t want to draw that type of negative energy to my body or mind in any form. Once I see the cause of the suffering more clearly, only then can I best take the action steps towards regaining my balance.
